To escape the heat from the sun in the Pilbara and Kimberley region, we cycled mostly during the early morning and in the late evening hours. So we didn't miss a sunrise or sunset.
Wild camping is officially illegal, but there are a lot of free camping spots along the road. Expect a lot of hospitality of the grey nomads when arriving at such a free spot. Occasionally there is even the 'grey nomad competition' of pampering you the most.
