One of the tips we got from locals: go bouldering the slot canyons. They were right! It is mesmerizing and quite the experience. Our favourites are Spooky and Peek-a-Boo in Grand Staircase-Escalante NM, and Little Wild Horse and Ding and Dang in Goblin Valley SP. But off course there are many more to choose.

We love wild camping. In the USA it's only allowed on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land, so whenever we had the chance we took this oppurtunity. In other places and especially in National Parks look for a Hike and Bike opportunity. The fees are usually lower than the fees for a typical campsite or sometimes even free. When you go hiking in National Parks you can apply for a wilderness permit, which allows you to camp anywhere you like.
Yellowstone NP, Wyoming
Counting down with geyser spotters for the next eruption. Cycling through a herd of bison. Getting temped to find some warmth in the Hot Springs, but finding relief in the Boiling River. There's no place like Yellowstone NP.
